Through the use of infrared technology, SD•X International has developed a pen that can scans codes embedded on printed materials and playback audio that corresponds to those codes. The technology has first been used in various children's books and is now being expanded to a multitude of other business segments. With this expansion they needed a marketing site to show the capabilities of these pens. I worked on an initial design comp that was chosen by the client and then oversaw the art direction of the project. The inspiration for the site design was focused around presenting the pen in a sleak, gallery-style layout and also working in content from real printed materials into the backgrounds of the site. I then illuminated them through the use of gradients which plays up on the idea of how the pen uses light to bring those printed materials to life.
