Simpler-Webb
Overview
At the very first meeting we had with the co-founders of Simpler-Webb we noticed that one of the owners loved using a whiteboard to help explain how the build IT infrastructures for their clients. I took that communication style and incorporated it into one of the two comps I developed for the client. They loved the whiteboard approach. At that point I knew I had a fair amount of work ahead of me in creating these whiteboard illustrations and that they would inevitably be revised during the course of the project.
So I came up with a method of scanning a variety of hand-drawn whiteboard marker strokes, converting those to vector brushes in Illustrator and then applying those to my vector drawings for the site. That gave me a wide range of flexibility and allowed for quick edits while maintaining the hand-drawn look that was needed to pull of the concept. I also built the flash movie on the homepage which offered it's own challenges with animating whiteboarded elements, but I think the final product came off nicely. The client even asked us for high-res versions of the illustrations to use on t-shirts. I have yet to get one of those...
